Enforcing the law against abusers makes them accountable for their behaviour. It also sends a message that assault and other criminal offences are unacceptable to society. Enforcing the law is a means of increasing the protection of women and children. Experience shows that domestic violence usually increases over time without intervention. So getting some help as early as possible is recommended. As a parent, it is especially important that you try to protect your children from the effects of abuse and witnessing violence.
This section provides you with information about the role of the police, Victim Service agencies and the criminal and civil justice system. You may want to contact these services if you are in an abusive situation.
